Healthy School Snack Ideas

I admit, this one can be tough. But as much as I want to grab the bagged organic cheese crackers for my daughter’s lunch, I try my best to stop. Not only is buying pre-packaged food more expensive but those crackers are not healthy, organic or not.

Here are things my children will eat.

  • Organic apple slices with organic peanut or almond butter.
  • Organic string cheese
  • Raisins and pecans (organic?  Yes).
  • Ezekiel bread with peanut butter and organic, no sugar added jam.
  • Boiled eggs.
  • Hummus with organic corn chips.

Almost all my snacks are from Whole Foods. And they all have protein and they all could be subbed for lunch instead of a snack but that is how we eat. Believe me when I tell you that I am not perfect! My children do eat too much junk food sometimes but we do not have processed, high fructose corn syrup, transfat or food dyes in our pantry nor do we do much that isn’t organic. Even if you cannot find or afford organic, you can usually find and afford better quality without the additives or heavy processing.
